Spanesi Celebrates 50 Years of Success
In 50 years, Orazio Spanesi has managed to turn a small town bodyshop into a global leader: Spanesi SpA. Today, the Italian company is producing the most innovative bodyshop equipment with over 40 highly performing and customisable products, sold all over the world. As Spanesi’s dealer, Al Mazroui Trading & General Services – Paints Division is in charge of the distribution of the brand’s products in the UAE.
One Man’s Ambition
“No matter where you start from, to go far you need a dream” says Orazio Spanesi, the founder of Spanesi SpA. And this is just what he did. His childhood in the Italian province of Padua was marked by the extreme hardships of the post–World War II era. At the age of 14, the young Orazio began to work in a bodyshop and quickly developed a curiosity to understand how things could be done better. 11 years later, in 1989, with Italy’s economy going through major changes, Orazio Spanesi’s dream of setting up his own business came true. His main goal was, and still is, to repair cars to perfection within the right time frame, while guaranteeing safety and meeting clients’ needs.
Driven by his thirst to learn everything there was to know about the sector, he began traveling, first around his country, then around the world. This was how he realised the inadequacy of the repair systems in use at the time. They were too slow and complicated.
Becoming a Global Leader
The success story goes on with the establishment of Spanesi as a manufacturing company, producing and selling more and more complete gear for bodyshops. His first-hand knowledge of the industry’s actual needs provided the Italian businessman with an edge in the manufacturing business. “My love for the tool”, as he calls it, was the key to elaborating innovative and competitive products and receiving patents. Thanks to a series of brilliant technical hunches, in just a few years, he succeeded in developing a range of devices that included the Spanesi universal jig and the totem lift that revolutionised the industry and gave the brand its success. The rest was a matter of courage and entrepreneurial intuition.
After achieving his goals locally, the entrepreneur decided to expand internationally with: a plant in China, a Chicago branch and warehouse and a Thai branch. Today, the company’s area managers virtually cover a global market of more than a hundred countries. Part of the Al Mazroui Group, Al Mazroui Trading & General Services – Paints Division is Spanesi’s dealer in the UAE. The company can offer several products and services of the Italian brand, such as body alignment, preparation stations, spot welders, spray booths and “Touch”, an electronic measuring system. Approved by the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Touch allows quick and effective diagnosis of damaged vehicles.
“If I got where I am today, it is because I once imagined a different life” declared the manufacturer. In 50 years, he has overcome difficulties and faced turning points, constantly adapting to the evolutions of the industry and the market. Decade after decade, Orazio Spanesi could count on his family. From the opening of his first bodyshop to this day, he has sought the involvement of his loved ones in the company and remains surrounded by them.
If with time Spanesi has become a leading producer at an international level, its spirit is still the same: the constant pursuit of the most effective solutions to help body technicians perform repairs to a standard you could call an art.
